Edit a document live with our support
You choose a key document and work with us to perfect it. The session will:
train your team to edit efficiently and smoothly by modelling the process live
apply our editing skills to support your subject matter expertise
accomplish some goals in-session and set others for the team to accomplish between or after training
build skill and confidence in your team that will continue to serve them with other projects
This session builds focus, investment in the document, and good relationships among team members.

What the process looks like
You leave with a stronger document, a professional editing checklist, and a clear list of tasks to complete
-
We analyze your document before the workshop and then meet with you to:
discuss what we found
set goals for the edit
discuss options for structure and style
plan the workshop
We then prepare example sections to model best practices and create exercises for the session.
-
We:
explain and model the stages of the editing process
work and problem-solve the document live with your team
show short before-and-after examples as teaching tools
work with the team to set tasks to complete in between sessions
share the checklists we use to edit and proofread
Your team completes the document after the training with occasional consulting from us. You can also contract us to do a final review.
-
We have two options for delivering this content.
3, 3.5-hour Zoom sessions or 1.5 days in person
A series of 1.5-hour sessions (typically 6 to 8) with the team editing between sessions
We recommend leaving time between each session for the team to make changes so they are ready for next steps in the following session.

A case study of live editing
The Cumulative Impact Monitoring Program under the Government of Northwest Territories worked with us to revise their Traditional Indigenous Knowledge Proposal Guide in plain language.
The teams applied the skills from the live editing workshop to:
cut the original document length by more than 50%
create a much clearer document
receive stronger applications from their readers
The revised version was runner-up for an international plain language award.
“This was the most immediately applicable training I have ever taken. Our whole team got excited. We applied what we learned to our Proposal Guide and cut the page count by 50%.”
“Immediately after the session, our team was already asking when we could take the next workshop. They said, “If we can only take one more training this year, it has to be this one!”
